First off, Happy 2011!
While most people choose small, sustainable (or not) New Year’s Resolutions to kickoff the year with a fresh start such as joining a gym, taking a multi-vitamin every day, or vowing to only drink on the weekends, my husband, Tony, and I have decided to take on a huge undertaking for the new year: Spend the year planning and prepping to leave our steady paying careers, our friends and family, and our comfortable life in Miami to travel the world for an entire year – or more if we are lucky!
The dates of when we hope to board the plane are still TBD and up for constant debate – October 2011 when our lease on our condo expires or January 1st, 2012 so we can spend the holidays with our families. Either way, this is a new year’s resolution that we are NOT backing out on – Not the first time you heard that one though I’m sure.
But in all seriousness, this is the real deal. We have come too far to back out now (for reasons we will explain in later posts)!
Over the next year, this blog will take you through our inspirations for taking this trip, where we plan to travel, the steps we have taken (and will take) to properly prepare for this life-changing adventure, and will be our outlet for general excitement and anxiety around our travel plans…oh and here’s the fun part – we will continue this blog throughout our trip vagabonding across the globe!
We hope you enjoy following this adventure and give as many tips as you can for a successful journey.
Let’s begin….
About Meg
Exhausted from traveling every week as a Business Management Consultant early in my career, I took a year off in 2012 to travel at my own pace. I am a high-energy girl that loves being active, eating food, drinking wine, and exploring the world with my partner-in-crime (and husband), Tony! I now reside in Portland, Oregon and continue to write about travel, food, wine, and the awesome adventures we have in the Pacific NW!
Hey there guys!
I found your blog by googling “couples traveling around the world” and I have to say, not only have I bookmarked your site but I find myself devouring every post both old and new! My husband and I are planning a RTW trip starting January 2014 and are starting the huge yet exciting task of planning, planning, planning and slowly starting to break the news to our family and friends (they think we are crazy! ha). It is so “comforting” to read content from a couple who has already accomplished what we are just setting out to do. I would love to be “RTW friends”. Any encouragement you can offer us would be amazing! You can add me on facebook if you want –Jessica Gunn, Bradenton, FL and my husband is Chris Gunn. We are working on setting up our blog/website!
Hi Jess!
I am happy to hear that you found our site… Especially through Google! We are always trying to do SEO work so we actually get recognized on Google. I am also glad you have found our site to be helpful! It is so funny because you sent us this note on the very day that we ended our RTW trip!
Going RTW was honestly the best decision we ever made (besides getting married) and we had a remarkable year! I am so excited to also will be taking the leap in 2014.
Setting up a blog is definitely a MUST for your RTW, so it is good to know that you are in the process of getting one up.
I am always available to share our tip/tricks/stories, so we will certainly be in touch. I tried to find you on FB and couldn’t. You can always reach me through our LandingStanding FB page or my personal one (Meg Rulli)! In the meantime, let us know when your site is live!
