Yup. That’s right. The dreaming and scheming is over.
Boston to New York to Lima to Santiago… 4 cities in less than 24 hours and we are on our way!
And damn does it feel GOOOOOOOD!
Lots of goodness to come for us in the next few days/weeks/months, including some tweaks to the site and much more output now that we are on the road. But while we are recuperating tonight from our 5,048 mile journey, check out what these other Vagabonders have been doing:
- Why do you want to travel? Why would you quit your job just to backpack? If you don’t have an idea what the answers are to these questions, that’s fine… but long-term travel probably is not for you. Heck, it might not be for me either, but I know that I want to see more, do more, and learn more about the world and was willing to make the leap. Maybe I will hit the wall like Ayngelina eventually (although from my starting point of day 1, traveling for 1.5 years sounds like an impossible dream), but there is nothing wrong with discovering your own limits. Ayngelina might be taking a break from travel, but I bet she will always be a traveler. At least I hope this is not the last Ayngelina travels because her love of food is an inspiration for our own travels!
- Adventurous Kate shares her own steps on how anyone can start their travels this year and reminds us that saving for your budget does not have to be impossible. Take it from me, eating out less and drinking a whole lot less while you are preparing to travel can save you a small fortune (as will downgrading the kind of apartment of you rent).
- Besides having a great name for her blog, Devon had a big 2011 and is planning on having an even bigger 2012 with her own RTW adventure starting in February heading West from Seattle. One of the most incredible experiences for me in planning this trip has been seeing all of the other people who are also doing the same. I am not alone!
- Hannah from Furtherbound is another traveler-in-planning that is a true inspiration. She does an impressive job of being open about her budget and breaking down her plans. For those of you still in your cubes, articles like this help you start to calculate what you have to start doing to financially prepare for your own travel adventure. I am hoping that by keeping careful track of our spending, we will be able to provide some interesting monthly spending stats so that we can all laugh/cry/learn as we watch our savings dwindle.
Thanks so much for including me in your round-up.
I definitely plan to keep travel at the forefront of life, but being nomadic is just too hard. A bit of a secret, my blog is a bit behind my life – I have been home for a bit and it was definitely the right decision for me.
Haha! Well I hope you have been enjoying putting roots down again. I can definitely see the need for taking breaking breaks from the nomadic life. I loved reading about your Chilean adventures… it definitely inspired us to start our RTW journey here!
Hi guys, thank you so much for including me in your round up, and for your kind words. Your blog has been a huge source of inspiration to me so being mentioned on it really means a lot
