I love reading all of the amazing travel blogs out there because they give such inspiration for what lies ahead of us. This week though had a great dose of actionable articles that will actually help us prepare and survive our year long adventure. Please share your favorite how-to articles on long-term travel in the comments so that we can land standing!
- Travel Insurance… this might be the nitty gritty of travel but damn is it important. Delphine and Michael get down to the essentials in the most informative article on travel insurance that I have seen so far. Less than $2,200 to insure a couple for a whole year? I would take that in a second!
- Adventurous Kate shares the things she did right while traveling and they are definitely ones we will try to follow as well. As much fun as that lazy river in Thailand sounds… the danger just doesn’t seem worth it.
- Meg has been racking up loads of frequent flyer miles for work and we want to make them stretch as far as possible once we hit the road. Chris makes traveling anywhere with miles sound so easy! The Easter Island tip really excites me since we will be starting our RTW trip in Chile…
- And while we’re using those miles these 10 great ways to survive long-term plane travel should help… How to be an Airplane Ninja.
- SO many reasons why I think this Nerd Fitness article is genius: 1) Irresistible puppy picture, 2) A puppy that looks just like Falcor from The Neverending Story, and 3) a ton of inspirational movie clips, quotes, articles, and songs. I am such a sucker for lists like this and the great thing is that whenever I run into a challenge, I can just flip to this article to spur myself onwards.
- Nomadic Matt relives the day he quit… a day that still is ahead of me (but closing in quick).
- We have already decided to be pure “carry-on” travelers even though many of Meg’s friends think she is crazy. Brooke shows the world that having only a carry-on is really the smart way to travel RTW.
- Dividing up travel responsibilities when traveling as a couple makes things so much easier. Meg will be glad to hear it since I was planning on just letting her lead the way!
- Two girls in my study abroad program got gassed on a train (#2 on the list) from Naples to Florence and had their purses stolen. Beware of travel scams when on the road. Seriously.
Happy July 4th to those of you in the States and I hope those of you abroad are finding your own special ways to celebrate!
Good roundup Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Brooke!
