Tony and I decided to leave the Miami heat for the weekend to venture up North to Boston to visit family and friends for a few days. I like to think that this weekend trip is somewhat of a mini-milestone in our RTW planning. It will be the last visit up to Boston before the end of October, when we will be moving back for a couple of months before leaving for our world travels.
It’s the little milestones like this one that remind me that our trip is right around the corner. Excitement/Fear/Anxiety continue to build up inside of me when I realize everything that we still have to do to prepare for the journey ahead. Luckily, every week I am reminded by my fellow travel bloggers that everything is going to be all right and that this CAN be done. Here were the friendly reminders from this week:
- I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule (“One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself”) and I take this thought with me whenever I travel to a new place. There have been so many kind strangers that have saved me in the past and I like to think that I will someday (if I haven’t already) get the opportunity to save someone as well. Have you ever met a heroic stranger in your travels?
- Part of me gets nostalgic thinking about next year when we are going to be away from home during some of our favorite holidays. But Then MJ reminds me how great a July 4th can be in Pitigliano, Italy and the longing thoughts of fireworks and hot dogs on the grill become a thing of the past!
- Ayngelina shares her thoughts on finding love on the road and the hardships that may come with it. I think I am getting out of this one easy next year, as I will be “having my cake and eating it too” when I am travelling the world with the Love of My Life!
- Think TSA sexually violates you at airport security now? Just you wait…
- I am not a huge fan of vodka but this drink from The Pourhouse in Vancouver looks delish! Which bring me to the question of the day: What has been your favorite cocktail on the road? My drink of choice was Sangria from a no-name hotel bar in Costa Brava, Spain!
- I get mixed emotions from family, friends, and co-workers whenever I tell people about my travel plans for next year. Many of those who are skeptical think what Tony and I are doing is somewhat childish. I would like to correct them but maybe they are partly right. After all, when we were children we probably all thought we were born to do something amazing… and my reasoning to give up the comforts of my stable career and my home life to travel the world is so I can do something extraordinary with my life. You gotta love the kid in you!
- A European Road Trip sounds amazing. I would love to try this out… Although, I am curious how to keep costs down (and my marriage intact on the left side of the road).
- Tony and I attempting to learn Spanish through Rosetta Stone before we head down to Santiago, Chile. However, for $3 an hour, it might be wise to invest in a Spanish course or a language exchange program when we are down there. It sounds like an excellent way to really learn the language… and meet new friends. Thanks for sharing Sarah!
- I love the concept of the ‘digital nomad’ lifestyle. This is EXACTLY what Tony and I hope to achieve during our time abroad. It is so great to see that other vagabonding couples have made it work!
- What a diverse and wonderful collection of travel posts Heather! I personally loved reading up on the artistic elephant!
About Meg
Exhausted from traveling every week as a Business Management Consultant early in my career, I took a year off in 2012 to travel at my own pace. I am a high-energy girl that loves being active, eating food, drinking wine, and exploring the world with my partner-in-crime (and husband), Tony! I now reside in Portland, Oregon and continue to write about travel, food, wine, and the awesome adventures we have in the Pacific NW!
Thanks for including a link to our blog!! Good luck to you guys. Man, I just love knowing that there are others in the world like you and Tony that are taking this leap. It makes us feel a little less crazy. Cheers to you and your non-conventional, well-lived life.
Welcome Kim! And you’re totally right… It’s great to know that we aren’t the only crazy people out there! You and Brian must be in full planning mode right now like we are. Tony is currently researching Travel Health Insurance and came across this helpful article about a couple who found a joint plan for roughly $2k… Thought I would share!

Thanks for the mention – apparently those elephants are very intelligent and after a while they start to make up different designs
haha that is too funny/amazing! I loved reading about them and your experiences in Thailand. Tony and I are looking to explore Southeast Asia next year and I think Thailand will be a must-see for our trip. It sounds incredible!
