As a woman, knowing that I have to squeeze a years worth of clothing into a small backpack is STRESSING me out. Starting in January, I will be travelling with my husband around the globe and because I haven’t “let myself go” (just yet), I want to look good while still being sensible on the road.
Which brings me to my favorite daily question:
“What to wear?”
Here are the requirements I am looking for in my travel apparel:
- Easy to pack (rolls into a small ball in my bag, doesn’t wrinkle, etc.)
- Can dress up or dress down (can wear on a hike or out to dinner)
- Can wear for days (without Tony avoiding me like the plague)
- Washes easily – even in the sink of a hostel room!
- Is CUTE!!
I haven’t done too much research around this topic yet, but I have come across some GREAT clothing for long-term travel at Lululemon. Here’s the breakdown of my Lululemon finds:
Their Modern Tanks are my favorite tops thus far (although apparently everyone else thinks so too because they are already all sold out – luckily I bought 5!). Here are their Pros and Cons:
Modern Tank Pros:
- Durable – lasts forever!
- They are slim fit and long in length so they are ultra flattering
- They are lightweight
- They are a little baggy at the bottom (i.e. they hide a pooch, which will be very necessary once I go Anthony Bourdain-style through Europe!)
- The Racer back design is sporty yet edgy for a night out
- They are pre-shrunk so no surprises when you wash them
- Tony loves them on me
Modern Tank Cons:
- They come out a little stiff if you try and air dry them
- They are not sweat proof and odor resistant – watch out Tony!
Their silverescent® with x-static® shirts are also pretty solid as well. Not as stylish as the Modern tanks, but they might just be better for travel. Here are their Pros and Cons:
Silverescent® with x-static® Pros:
- Durable – Lasts forever!
- Odor RESISTANT. I actually wore one to the gym for 4 days in a row (I know, I’m gross) and it passed Tony’s odor test at the end of the week… Amazing!
- Quick dry
- They are slim fit and long in length (but not as flattering as the Modern)
- They are lightweight
- Wash easily and air dry well!
Silverescent® with x-static® Cons:
- A little too sporty to dress up
- Too loose at the top, which can lead to an R-rated wardrobe malfunctions if you aren’t wearing a sports bra
- A little to fitted for my eating expectations on the road!
As you can see, I have found some top notch clothing for travelling the globe next year. However, I still haven’t found the perfect match for my high demands. I also need ideas on what pants, shoes, skivvies, etc. to pack for my RTW adventure.
I have heard great buzz about ISIS for ideal travel apparel for women but I haven’t tried them out yet.
Let the research begin!
This is where I ask all you ladies to please speak up and share… What are YOUR favorites?
